Suffering from spam calls and emails? Not only is it annoying, but damage from phishing scams via LINE and SMS has become a big problem, but Android smartphones can be set to reject such unwanted calls and emails.
In this article, we will focus on how to operate Google Pixel 5, and introduce settings related to spam calls and emails, such as rejecting standard functions available on Android 6.0 and later. There are similar settings for other models, so please refer to them.
Sometimes when you answer a call from an unknown number, it's a solicitation call. On Google Pixel and some Android smartphones, you can use the convenient "call screening" function in such cases.
The "Call Screening" feature allows Google Assistant to answer calls on your behalf when you tap the "Screen Calls" button when you receive a call. It converts the other person's speech into text in real time. While looking at this character, you can calmly decide whether to answer the phone or not.
As a point of caution, you can only use the standard Android "phone" app, and you can not use it with a third-party phone app.
As mentioned above, when you tap the Screen Call button, the other party hears a message that you are using the Google Assistant's screening service. You are prompted for your name and business, and on this screen, what the other person is saying is displayed on the screen in real time.
If you didn't say your name, or if you couldn't hear it well or couldn't convert the text, "Please tell me your name for confirmation." There is also a standard response such as "Please tell us your business."
To answer a call, tap the answer icon in the lower left. In this case, instead of being replaced immediately, it will be replaced by the Google Assistant after a message saying "Thank you for waiting. I will connect you now." If you want to end the call without making a direct call, tap the [end call icon] at the bottom left as well, but instead of suddenly disconnecting, the message "The call cannot be connected" is played, as if The service is as if the Google Assistant is acting as a receptionist.
In addition, the converted text is saved on the smartphone without any special settings, and the contents can be confirmed by the following operation.
Tap the screened call from the "Phone" app ▶ [History] and select [Open History].
The call history with the selected party will be displayed, so tap the history where "Convert voice to text" is displayed.
There is also a response to call rejection for soliciting calls that come in many times. There are three types of call rejection settings: a method from the incoming call history, a method from the person registered in the contact list, and a method of manually registering the phone number to be rejected.
Either way, the caller does not hear a ringing tone and the call ends immediately. If it's just a sales or solicitation call, don't worry about it, but keep in mind that someone who understands this spec may find it blocked.
From [History] in the "Phone" app, press and hold the call you want to block, and tap [Block and report as spam] from the menu that appears.
When the confirmation message is displayed, tap [Block].
From [Contacts] in the "Phone" app, select the contact you want to block.
How to reject from contacts registered on Android smartphone
From the top right menu, select Block Phone Numbers.
When the confirmation message is displayed, tap [Block].
You can check the blocked phone numbers in the "Phone" app [Settings] ▶ [Blocked phone numbers] > [Blocked phone numbers], but you can directly enter the phone number here and block it. It is also possible. Also, on this screen, you can reject incoming calls from public telephones and unknown callers (callers whose number is not provided).
From the upper right menu of the "Phone" app, select [Settings] and tap [Blocked numbers].
Tap [Add Number] to register a phone number.
Android's stock Phone app labels incoming calls as Spam if they come from a number listed as spam in Google's database.
You can also automatically block incoming calls from numbers with these labels. In this case, the number will not appear in the "Blocked Phone Numbers" section above, but the incoming call will be blocked as well.
Turn on [Block nuisance calls] from [Phone] app [Settings] ▶ [Caller Info / Nuisance Calls].
On rare occasions, incoming calls from friends, etc. may be misidentified as nuisance calls. In that case, select the number from the call history and select [Not a nuisance call] to cancel it, and it will no longer be considered a nuisance call.
In addition to phone calls, you'll also want to block unwanted messages from people you don't know that could lead to phishing scams. You can do that on Android as well. Here, I'll show you how to block SMS from people you don't know, and how to block people who have contacts.
In addition, it is not possible to reject only SMS and receive calls, or reject calls and receive only SMS. If you set a rejection setting for either phone or SMS, both will be blocked.
By the way, even if you block SMS, it will still be received, and the sender will complete the transmission successfully. Received SMS is stored in the [Menu] ▶ [Spam/Blocked] folder.
When you open an SMS from someone who is not registered in your contacts, you will see a message at the top asking if you want to save it in your contacts. Tap "Report as spam" in the display. On the confirmation screen, check [Block] and then tap [Report as spam].
On the message screen, select the person you want to block, then select [Details] from [Menu].
Select [Block and Report Spam] and tap [OK] on the confirmation screen.
Have you ever suddenly received a message from someone you don't know on LINE? With LINE, even if you haven't added the other person as a friend, if the other person has added you as a friend, you can send a message. Here, we will introduce settings to reject messages from non-friends and how to block them.
Open LINE and tap the gear icon on the home screen.
Tap [Privacy Management] and set [Refuse Messages] to [On].
Even if you have already added a friend, if there are people you want to block individually, you can [block] them. In addition, the blocked side can send messages and make calls as usual, but even if you send a message, it will not be read, and if you make a LINE call, the other party will not respond.
Tap [three lines] in the upper right corner of the chat screen and tap [Block].
When using so-called carrier mail such as ~@au.com, it is possible to set up not to receive mail from the specified address depending on the service of each communication company. In the case of au, set from "Junk mail filter".
Access "au Support" from your browser, open "Junk Mail Filter", and select "Add to Deny List".
In the deny list settings, enter the email address or part of the address you want to reject, and select the matching range from [Domain Match], [Complete Match], and [Partial Match] from the list next to the input field.
By registering the domain of the email address (the part after @) in the input field, you can reject all emails from that domain. [Exact match] rejects emails from that address, and [Partial match] rejects emails from email addresses that include the content entered in the input field.
In addition, when the rejection list exceeds 200, the oldest ones are automatically deleted. For keywords that you do not want to automatically delete, check the [Protect] box on the far left.
Confirm that [Enable/Disable Deny List] at the bottom of the screen is set to [Enable], and select [Change].
Finally, select [OK] to complete the settings.
Au offers a "nuisance call rejection service". It is a convenient service that prevents calls from being received by playing a "decline guidance" when a call is made from a registered phone number. You can also register numbers that have been received without notification.

In this article, we mainly introduced the setting method on Google Pixel 5, but other models have similar functions. For example, Xperia uses the Android standard "phone" application, so you can take measures against nuisance calls with almost the same settings as those introduced here. Galaxy uses its own "phone" app, but you can also set rejection from the incoming call history, so please try it.
If you are having trouble with annoying calls on e-mail or LINE, or if you want to block incoming calls from unknown numbers, consider setting up au's "nuisance call rejection service" service. I would say
