Disney / Pixar's "Cars" series is a story in which Lightning McQueen, a rookie rookie of a racing car that appears like a comet (lightning?), Grows as an athlete through various encounters.The latest work "Cars / Cross Road" that creates a serious atmosphere, is a story depicting McQueen's heart movement facing his own athlete life.
This time, we talked to Director Brian Fee, the first director's work.He has also participated in the production of Cars and Remy's Delicious Restaurant as a storyboard artist in the past.He talked about the latest technology used in "Cars / Cross Road" and the message of the director in the work!
ー ー “The rise of the latest technology” was a major theme of this work, but the technology is constantly evolving in the real world.How does the director perceive this?
ブライアン・フィー（以下フィー）：新しい技術というのは常に若い世代がエキスパートなんですね。たとえば以前、私が父親にビデオデッキの使い方を教えていましたし、今は8歳の娘が私に携帯の使い方を教えてくれます。作品には、こういった実体験が活かされています。ー ー McQueen's design has changed many times in the play, but why aren't McQueen -like?
フィー：車体の形は変わっていません。だから、あくまでペイントや色などグラフィックデザインが変わっても、マックィーンの顔つきは保たれているんです。ボディのサイドの部分には多少の変更はありますが、目と形が同じであれば、どこから見ても同じに見えます。McQueen's expressions and gestures are referring to the video that Owen Wilson, who plays his voice in the original version, is dubbing.Owen's movement is reflected in a part of the character formation.
-Pixar works are famous for having new technologies every time, but this time the mud is elaborately expressed.There were other descriptions of water, such as the sea and ponds, but is it difficult to express mud and liquid with CG?
フィー：本作で最も困難だったことが｢泥｣です。水に関しては、他の作品でもやってきているので｢どうやってやるんだろう？｣と試みる必要はありませんでした。波の表現はちょっと時間がかかりましたが、難しいことではなかったですね。In the case of mud, the body had to express the mud in a 7 -minute scene, the car moved in the mud, the wet, the dry one, and the middle state.The effect (effect) department was making a lot of effort.
-The many new characters appeared, how are they born?
フィー：新しいキャラクターはすべて、私たちが伝えたいストーリーに合わせて生まれます。今回登場する彼らも、マックィーンの置かれている状況を支えることを主眼に考案されています。時として｢こういうキャラクターも登場させよう｣と試みるんですが、ストーリーラインの変化によってボツになることもあります。For example, Miss Fritter.A rusted school bus character, a boss of a stray derby that McQueen accidentally sneaked in.Competition on a muddy course like a lawful zone is the worst situation for racing cars, while the cars you are participating in this derby are enjoying this derby.What we wanted to convey in this scene is that it may be a terrible situation for someone, but it is a very good time for someone else.
ー ー The presence of the instructor was an important character element, but what is John Laceteter, who supervised the Cars series so far, and served in this work, for the director?
フィー：ジョン・ラセターは自分の人生のなかでも大切なメンターの一人です。彼がいなかったら今の自分はありませんし、ピクサーに入社してからずっと彼を見ていました。彼の生き方や人との接し方、優れた物語の伝え方はとても素晴らしく、まわりにもインスピレーションを与えつづけています。ジョン・ラセターを見ることは、自分にとって人生のレッスンを受けているようですね。
I was not planning or planned to be the director in this work.So during the production, he interacted closely with him.From the character settings to the story, I wanted to hear John's opinion in every part.
He gives me a chance to have various experiences.Sometimes John believed, even if he couldn't believe himself.
ー ー This is a voice for adults, but what kind of message do you want to convey through the work?
フィー：前向きでポジティブなメッセージを伝えたいと思っています。ただ、私たちは｢子どもたちだけ｣というわけではなく、老若男女に伝わるメッセージを目指しています。The character Cruise Ramirez of this work reflects what I felt through my daughters.The cruise has similar conflicts, as if they were a cruise line, and they were afraid of the cruise lines and they were afraid when they challenged new things.
What a cruise has to learn is that everyone can sympathize by having confidence and pursuing dreams.
Pixar is making things and impressive they like.In that respect, we are like a "big child".
＊＊＊"Cars / Cross Road" is said to be "for adults" in the United States in the home country, but the word "big child" of the director resounded very much.As a child, the author who grew up watching "Toy Story" and "Bugs Life" may be a big child who has grown older while receiving messages from Pixar works.So what is an adult?And it makes me feel a little philosophical.
The trailer that Lightning McQueen is crashing is impressive, but not only the story of standing on the crossroads of life, but also the playful and detailed depiction.The racing scenes of reality and powerful as a reality were also elements to enjoy the movie.Of course, there are scenes where the pizza planet mark appears!
