 American Diodes released a news release on the release of a driver IC for a piezoelectric buzzer (piezoelectric sounder) that can select the sound pressure level (SPL). The sound pressure level can be selected by changing the voltage applied to the piezoelectric buzzer. When the applied voltage is 31VPP, a high sound pressure level can be obtained, but the battery life is shortened. On the other hand, if the applied voltage is 22VPP, the sound pressure level will be lower, but the battery life will be extended. Applications include GPS trackers, Bluetooth trackers, portable medical humidifiers, and industrial alarms.

The voltage applied to the piezoelectric buzzer is selected by the user through a general purpose input/output (GPIO). A function that automatically shifts to shutdown mode when the PWM signal input (DIN pin input) continues to be low (low) for 100 ms (typical value) or more, and automatically starts (wakes) when it changes to high (high) again up). "By using these functions, you can extend the battery life" (the company). Current consumption in shutdown mode is as low as 1μA maximum. Protective functions include thermal shutdown, overcurrent protection, and overvoltage protection.
